WhatsApp has added a lot of new features to its instant messaging app and while it just announced the Media Visibility option, here comes another practical feature dubbed as the WhatsApp Send Messages which will now let group admins to restrict other members from sending messages in any particular group.

WhatsApp has started rolling out the ‘Send Messages’ feature for group admins to restrict members from sending messages to the group. The feature, which is now available on both Android and iOS has been in the works for a long time, with the company believed to be working on this for months.

Here is the complete step-by-step guide to restrict members from messaging in the group.  We will be explaining all of the required steps briefly using images for reference.

Prerequisites Restrict Group Members from Messaging in WhatsApp

These sets of requirement are needed in other to restrict group member from sending message on WhatsApp.

Make sure that your WhatsApp is updated and you are running the latest version. Since this feature has been announced only recently, you might not be able to find in any of the older version of WhatsApp.

Make sure that you are the admin of the group. Only the group admin can access this feature.

Finally, this feature is backward compatible. It means if your members are running an older version of WhatsApp on their smart phone, the restriction will apply to them too.

Restrict Group Members from Messaging in WhatsApp

Step 1 ====> If you are a group admin, tap on the Group Info option. Here you will see multiple options such as Add group description, Mute notifications, Custom notifications, Encryption and finally, Group settings.

Step 2 ====> Scroll down and tap on the Group Settings option. Once you tap on the Group settings, the first menu option you will see is Edit group info.

Toggling this option to Only admin will restrict the group members (those who are not admin) from changing the group subject, icon, and description

Step 3 ====> There will the Send Messages option, tap on it

Step 4 ====> Choose Only admins and now all the group members will have to take your approval for messaging in the group.

How to Restrict Group Members from Messaging in WhatsApp

Doing so will restrict other members from sending any messages on the group. Once you have done this all the group members will be notified that now only the admins can send messages in the group. To enable the restriction in your WhatsApp group, simply select the option as shown in this image.

Step 5 ====> Once you have restricted your WhatsApp group, the members will not be able to send messages to the group. And if they open the group they will see that only the admins can now message in the group.
