Google find my phone, previously known as Android Device Manager, helps you find lost or stolen phones and tablets. There are different reasons you need Google to find you phone, you may lost your device as a result of rubber, misplacement and many more.
Find your lost or stolen Android device and remotely wipe your personal data with Google find my phone. This method work similar to other locator devices to access stolen or lost phone, such as Lookout and Samsung’s Find My Mobile, but you get an app specifically for Android devices.
Google’s making it even easier to track down your misplaced phone device. While Android Device Manager already exists to help find lost phones and tablets, just getting to your account’s ADM menu often requires a search of its own.
Requirements to enable Google find my phone
Your device is connected with your Google account.
Your device has access to the internet.
Allowed Android Device Manager (ADM) to locate your device (turned on by default). This can changed in the Google Settings app if you want Google find my phone.
Allowed ADM to lock your device and erase its data (turned off by default).
Here is how to get started with Google find my phone.
Enable the settings
For most devices to work with Google find my phone, it will need to be logged into your Google account, (it is very important to have used Google account on the device you want Google to find) online and have its Location feature turned on.
Some phones are built with security features which can prevent the erase feature of the app from working
What you need to do is to make sure, if you have a newer Android device,
go to the Settings ===> Google=== > Security. Under the Android Device Manager section, the locator feature should be turned on by default, if not turn it on.
To enable remote data wipe, you need to tap the slider next to “Allow remote lock and erase.”
Alternatively, if you are having older devices you can go to the Google Settings app, and then tap on Android Device Manager. To enable remote data wipe, tap on the box next to “Allow remote factory reset,” then tap Activate.
Next thing to do is to Download the app
To use Google find my phone, go to the Play Store to download and install the Find My Device app on another device(if the device is not having app but if it does, no need of downloading again) such as another phone or tablet. There are many apps with similar names, so be sure to download the one that lists “Google Inc.” as the developer
Next line of action is to log in to your Google account, I mean your gmail account. A window will pop up asking your permission to allow Find My Device to use location data, tap or click on Accept to continue. Once you have logged in, a dashboard will pop up that shows you where your phone is and several options to carry out on the process of how Google find my phone.
Lock option on how Google find my phone:
The lock option is important and came to action if you want to lock your Android phone so no one will able to access your data while you are trying to recover your lost phone using Google find my phone.
To lock your device, you need to click on the Lock option to do the following settings. Enter your new password twice, add a contact number of anyone who may find your phone and then tap the Lock button.
Once the command is sent to your device or phone, it will lock it immediately, even if it is being used.

Other important option is the location of your phone which you why you use Google find my phone. The location of your Android device will appear automatically on the map, along with the battery level, information on whether your phone is online or not and when it was last located. You can zoom in and out of the map to check out the location, if you wish to do so.
The last but not the least of the options to discuss on this aspect is weather to erase your stolen or lose phone or not. If you think you have lost your device for good and would like to force a factory reset to protect your personal data or information, choose the Erase option.
This will automatically erase all your apps, photos, music and settings from your device. If your device is offline when you send the erase command, do not worry yourself, it will perform the task the next time it comes online.
Once your device has been wiped, you will no longer be able to access it from the app, therefore be careful and be sure you are ready to take this action on how Google find my phone. Also keep in mind that a remote factory reset may not wipe external SD memory cards.
