Gmail is a free online website that allows you to send and receive messages from other mailing website across the globe. Every time you are online, or login into your Gmail account, your online status will be active and seen by every of your contact list that are online at that time. The joy of it is that, you can prevent Gmail from revealing your online status
When you communicate through Google Hangouts with one of your contacts list, Gmail adds them to the panel on the left of the email screen for fast and convenient access.
You just click a name or image in the panel to open a chat window where you can start a text or video chat. You can see when any of these Hangout contacts is online on the panel. They can see when you are online, too.
How to Prevent Gmail From Revealing Your Online Status
As we stated above, you may decide action on your online status. The decision you make depend largely on you. You can control your online status, either to be visible or not. So if, you want your online status not to be visible, then the following steps will guide you through.
To protect your online status from being revealed automatically in Gmail and turn off the chat feature for all your contacts.
Step 1 ====> Login to your Gmail account on the mail website. You need to provide your login details
Step 2 ====> Click the Settings Gear icon at top right corner from any screen on your Gmail account.
Step 3 ====> Select Settings on the menu that appears.
Step 4 ====> Now select the Chat tab.
Step 5 ====> Then click the radio button next to Chat off to hide your online status and chat availability.
Step 6 ====> Finally, click Save Changes.
If you only want to mute the notifications of chat for a short time while you are busy
Step 1 ====> Click your profile picture in the left panel of Gmail
Step 2 ====> Use the drop-down menu next to Mute notifications for
Step 3 ====> Then select a time period from one hour up to one week.
There used to be an invisible mode in Google Chat, which was the predecessor to Hangouts. Invisible status is not available on Hangouts. You do have some control over who contacts you.
Step 1 ====> Click your profile picture in the Gmail left panel
Step 2 ====> Select Customized Invite Settings.
These settings contain controls that allow specified groups of people to contact you directly or send you an invitation.
