Like other iOS devices, Macs, the Apple Watch and the Apple TV, the HomePod will be updated with new software on a regular basis. But by default, updates are installed on your HomePod automatically. Meanwhile, there is a way to force an update software on newly released one. Apple’s auto update function is not typically immediate after the released, so it can sometimes be handy to have a way to manually install update software.
Mind you, HomwPod speaker do not have a screen to show when a new software are released. How do you know what HomePod version you are on? And how do you update it? This is what you are about to learn on this article, so keep reading to achieve your goal.
The HomePod Updates Itself Automatically
This is a good news about the update software: your HomePod does not really need to be updated, at least not manually. It is going to keep itself updated as long as it is plugged in and turned on. So unless you are really waiting for a specific feature, I see no reason to bother with update software.
How to manually install update software on HomePod
Locating HomePod updates and checking on the software version you have installed is simple, but it is not entirely intuitive because the update function is somewhat hidden in the Home app. So if you are curious about the update, the steps that will lead you through is what you are about to read.
Step 1 ====> Open up the Home app.
Step 2 ====> Tap on the arrow in the upper left corner of the display.
Step 3 ====> Tap Home Settings.
Step 4 ====> Select My Home or “[My Name]’s Home” if you have changed the name of your HomeKit setup.
Step 5 ====> Scroll down on the next screen until you see the Software Update option underneath Speakers, and tap it.
The next screen will check to see if you have got any new software updates, and show you the current HomePod software version number if there is no updates to be found at the moment.
Step 6 ====> If there are new update software, you will be immediately prompted to install the new update, which will work just like you are used to with iOS updates.
Step 7 ====> Just click the Download and Install option to start the update, and wait until it’s done.
If you have multiple HomePods in your home, each one will be updated at the same time through this software update feature.
